Leisurely
Sunday lunchtime jam sessions at a rural hotel in north-east Scotland have
evolved since the early 1990’s into something of a musical rarity in that
corner of the world.
The Buchaneers are one of very few bands of its kind playing on a regular basis- but the current members still hold to the same musical principles, of fun and entertainment, which were the hallmarks of its early days. “Foot-tapping, trad jazz of the 20’s and 30’s era” is the band’s musical slogan with strong emphasis on fun and comradeship. Yet despite their often jovial approach, they recognise they need to show commitment and integrity to maintain their success.
The
band takes its name from the rural Buchan area of Aberdeenshire where many of
its original members hail from, although only one of the six now resides there!
The Buchaneers have slowly but surely developed a reputation which sees them
attracting audiences of a wide ranging age group, emphasising their appeal to
young and old alike.
Their
gig portfolio ranges from Aberdeen café bars to stately rural homes, from
private birthday and retirement parties to corporate barbecues and promotional
events, from wedding celebrations to even funeral wakes. They are now firmly established on the music scene in Aberdeen and its
environs and will always regard this as their core playing territory. From time
to time, the band ventures further afield and has been regular visitors to the
acclaimed Isle of Bute and Kirkcudbright Jazz Festivals. In 2000, the band made
its first venture across the border on a successful whirlwind tour of the North West
including a rousing gig at Ambleside in the Lake District.
The
band has recorded two C.D.’s to date. Copies of the C.D.'s are
available at all band performances priced £10 each. A cassette tape version is
available at £5. The recordings can also be ordered via email by clicking

The
current band line-up is: Norman
Horne (clarinet), Norman Robertson (trumpet), Bill Peat (trombone), Bryan Milne
(banjo), Ian Smith (drums) and Kevin Peat (string bass).
Enquiries and bookings can be made via Norman Horne on 01224 749708 or by email.
